How to Keep an Office Cleaner Between Professional Visits
Small habits and a few pieces of infrastructure do more for how an office looks day to day than increasing cleaning frequency.

If an office looks poor two days after a clean, the answer is not always more cleaning. Often it is that a few high-leverage points are generating most of the visible mess, and they can be addressed without changing the schedule.
Entrance matting is the highest-leverage thing you can do
The large majority of soil in a building walks in on shoes. Proper matting at entrances — long enough that someone takes several steps on it — traps grit before it reaches carpet and hard floors. It reduces visible dirt, and it materially slows the abrasion that wears floors out.
Give waste somewhere obvious to go
Bins that are too small, too few, or awkwardly placed produce the overflow that makes a space look neglected. Bins at the points where waste is actually generated — desks, kitchen, printer, entrance — are a cheaper fix than another visit.
The kitchen needs one rule that is actually enforced
Shared kitchens fail through diffusion of responsibility. A single stated rule — wash what you use before you leave the room — does more than any number of passive-aggressive notices. It also makes the cleaner’s visit go into surfaces rather than dishes.
Keep desks clearable
Cleaners generally will not move personal items or paperwork. If desks are permanently covered, desk surfaces effectively never get cleaned. Telling staff that a cleared desk is what gets wiped is usually enough to change the outcome.
