How to Determine the Right Cleaning Frequency for Your Business
A method for setting commercial cleaning frequency from how your premises are actually used, rather than from a guess or a competitor’s schedule.
2 min read
Frequency is the decision that most affects both the cost and the outcome of a commercial cleaning arrangement, and it is usually made by copying whatever seems normal. A short structured look at your own premises produces a better answer.
Step 1: identify your frequency-critical areas
Not all areas degrade at the same rate. Restrooms, kitchens, and entrances fail fastest and most visibly. Meeting rooms and private offices degrade slowly. Your schedule should be set by the fastest-degrading area that matters, not by an average.
Step 2: test the interval
Check your most frequency-critical area at the end of the day immediately before the next scheduled clean. That is the worst state the area reaches. If it is unacceptable at that point, the interval is too long. If it is comfortably fine, there may be room to reduce.
Step 3: separate what needs frequency from what needs depth
Some problems are frequency problems — bins, restrooms, high-touch points. Others are depth problems — grout, hard-floor condition, high dusting. Increasing visit frequency does not fix a depth problem, and a periodic deep task does not fix a frequency problem. Confusing them leads to paying more for the wrong thing.
Step 4: account for who sees the space
Client-facing areas carry a higher standard than internal ones, and that is a legitimate reason to raise frequency for part of a building without raising it everywhere. A split scope — daily reception and restrooms, weekly elsewhere — is often the efficient answer.
Step 5: review it after it starts
The correct frequency usually becomes obvious after a few weeks of real operation. We check in after service to make sure the standard is holding and to discuss adjusting frequency up or down based on what the building actually needs.
